The Nike+ FuelBand has been introduced by the sports equipment manufacturer with an idea that it can encourage users to stay more active and develop a healthier lifestyle. The wristband-like accessory measures not just calories but time and steps as well.

Apart from these three metrics which function via the accelerometry, the device also shows NikeFuel. Introduced by the company, this measurement unit can portray just how active the wearer is. Data about all these activities is laid out across the band by an LED dot matrix display. It is a set of 20 lights which turn green from red with respect to how users attain the preset goals. Specified system requirements for this gadget are a Mac or PC and internet access.

“The Nike+ FuelBand is a way for Nike to further evolve the exciting possibilities of merging the physical and digital worlds,” commented Mark Parker, President and CEO, Nike. “Nike has always been about inspiring athletes, and the Nike+ FuelBand will help motivate them in a simple, fun and intuitive way.”

The principle behind this concept is to get users to be more active. The band can be worn throughout the day and is designed to easily synchronize with an iPhone through a free app, or the Nike website by means of an incorporated USB. This facilitates users to record daily activity and keep track of progress and goal achievements. Believing that users work towards getting more only if they want more, the predefined goals are meant to help them complete the necessary physical activities every day.

The Nike+ FuelBand price for pre-order is $149 (approx. Rs. 7,500). It can be purchased through the Nike Store website.
