While the Google Project Glass is still in the works, users seeking a head-mounted, wearable screen can place their orders for the Silicon Micro Display ST1080. This device boasts of rendering clear visuals in native 1080p resolutions.

The lightweight, wearable gadget tips the scale at merely 180 grams, and delivers a 100-inch virtual image at a distance of 1 foot. Besides allowing users to watch movies and videos, the 10 percent transparent display technology also makes it apt for augmented reality applications. At the same time, it helps them monitor the environment. Moreover, it has been fitted with a visor cover that makes for an enhanced VR experience sans transparency.

Powered by the LCoS microdisplay technology, it offers 1920 x 1080p resolutions and works towards eliminating the screen-door artifact when projecting lower resolution pictures or videos. Its aspect ratio stands at 16:9, while brightness and contrast ratio are 150 nits and 1200:1 at f/2.8, respectively. The device is compliant with both 2D as well as 3D formats.

The head mountable screen can either be powered using a PC USB port or with the help of an external USB battery. It comes drenched in shades of pearl white and jet black. In addition to a micro-USB power port, it tags along an HMD cable output and an HDMI Type A connector. Two 3.5mm stereo headphone jacks, one for each ear, have been placed on the ear stems of the goggles. It is packaged with a controller unit.
