Xiaomi Mi Band 5 introduced with better battery life and women’s health tracking

As expected, Xiaomi has taken the veil off its Mi Band 5 fitness band, which has been blessed with plenty of new updates. It now boasts of 14-day battery life, while it also adds stuff like highly improved sleep tracking and the tracking of menstrual cycles for women. The device has only been launched in China for now, but there’s a solid chance that it will soon make its way into India. Its price in the said country is set at RMB 189 (approximately Rs 2,030) for the regular version, and at RMB 229 (around Rs 2,460) for the NFC variant. It will start being sold from June 18 onwards.

The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 brings with it a high-performance PPG heart rate sensor that’s tailored to support precise 24-hour heart rate monitoring. In fact, the heart rate monitoring function of irregular movements sees a 50% improvement. As for sleep monitoring, it has received a 40% boost in accuracy. Support for the recording of irregular and sporadic sleep patterns and rapid eye movement has been added as well, which means even your little naps during the day time will be counted by the fitness device.

Mi Band 5

The regular version of the Mi Band 5 has a slightly tinier 0.95-inch display, where the NFC variant holds a 1.1-inch panel. Both panels, however, are AMOLED in nature and are covered with 2.5D tempered glass. Customized themes are a cool new addition, as they allow you to alter the interface by selecting function modules based on your preference and personal style. You can also take advantage of fifty-four themes modeled along IPs like Spongebob Squarepants, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hatsune Miku and more.

Another feature exclusive to the NFC version of the Mi Band 5 is the menstrual cycle tracking. This variant also gets a fresh magnetic strap-on charger, a remote shutter function for the phone’s camera, breathing training support and a few additional exercise tracking modes. That makes the regular version of the fitness band look quite pale in comparison. Even the 24-hour sleep tracking mentioned above is not available on the basic model of this Xiaomi device.
