The HTC Butterfly, the global variant of the J Butterfly and its US version Droid DNA, has decided not to step in Europe. Although Expansys had already started taking pre-orders for the smartphone, it has now announced that it will not be selling this phone.
The company did not make an official announcement for the phone’s arrival, but it continues to be listed on the OEM’s global website. According to the e-retailer in question, the Taiwanese manufacturer informed it that the handset is not making a debut in the European markets, owing to which it has cancelled all pre-orders. The guys over at Unwired View stumbled upon this bit of information via Cool Smartphones.
However, the phone will be flying into Asia and Australia as the e-retailer’s Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia branches, amongst others, are still stocking it. It is up for pre-order in these areas and price details are yet to be revealed. There is no confirmation on the shipping date as well.
For refresher’s sake, the device is graced by a 5-inch capacitive Super LCD 3 full HD multi-touch screen of 1920 x 1080p resolution. It has been coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 for withstanding scratches. Powered by the Android Jelly Bean 4.1 platform, the smartphone is also deployed with HTC Sense.
A quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor ticks at 1.5GHz and takes care of the device’s internal working. It is accompanied by 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal memory and an expansion slot which can extend support to a microSD card of up to 32GB capacity. The handset also comes with communication options such as GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Furthermore, it is equipped with a 2.1MP front-mounted webcam for the purpose of making video calls and recording videos. An 8MP rear-facing snapper rests on the flip side and allows users to capture 1080p videos. The camera is loaded with attributes like LED flash, a BSI sensor, video stabilization, digital zoom, VideoPic mode and more.
The HTC Butterfly may have ditched Europe; but at least its price and availability details for other regions can be expected.
