HTC 8S will not be arriving in the US

The HTC 8S that was the manufacturer’s first Windows Phone 8 offering unveiled in September has decided not join its sibling in the US. This Windows Phone 8-based device has already been announced for other countries including India and the UK.

Engadget has an official statement from HTC that confirms this bit of news about its stateside debut. The Taiwanese company believes that the Windows Phone 8X is their signature device which is already up for sale through carriers like Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile and AT&T. And in order to focus its total attention on this smartphone, the company has decided not to distribute the handset in question in the US.

Now that the OEM has gone on record to say that this phone will not be coming stateside, the HTC 8S device’s unlocked versions are likely to show up in the country. As for its specifications, the gadget running the latest version of Microsoft’s OS, acquires multitasking properties from a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor that ticks at 1GHz. There’s 512MB of RAM to accompany the chipset.

It comes encased in a chassis dipped in shades of domino, fiesta red, Atlantic blue and high-rise gray. The phone weighing 113 grams, measures only 10.8mm in thickness. Its front panel houses a 4-inch Super LCD WVGA touchscreen which is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass coating in order to keep scrapes and scratches at bay. The smartphone has been integrated with Beats Audio technology too.

Featuring 4GB of internal memory, it comes with a microSD card slot for additional storage and boasts of employing a 5MP camera, blessed with attributes like auto focus, LED flash, a 35mm lens and the ability to record 720p HD videos. The Bluetooth- and Wi-Fi-enabled device is fueled by a 1700mAh lithium-ion polymer battery and arrives with built-in GPS.

As we mentioned above, the HTC 8S will not be made available in the US. Its unlocked version is priced at Rs. 19,260 in India and £224.99 in the UK.
