The price of the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS-powered Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook developer edition has been announced and it is optimized to meet the needs of application designers. Besides features to enhance speed and mobility, it has been loaded with the beta version of a cloud launcher for creating a ‘microcloud’ on the device itself.
The Ultrabook continues to take advantage of the hardware attributes that were deployed in the Windows version. It gains steam from the third generation Intel Core i7-3667Us processor which clocks in a maximum speed of up to 3.2GHz as well as 8GB of DDR3L RAM. The system with dimensions of 18 x 316 x 205 millimeters, also integrates the Intel QS67 chipset. It tips the scales at around 1.36 kilograms.
Moreover, the notebook constructed using aluminum, features a magnesium palmrest with soft touch paint. The XPS 13 is fitted with a 13.3-inch HD display of 720p resolution, while it has been incorporated with the Intel HD 4000 GPU to deliver decent graphics. It employs speakers powered by Waves MaxxAudio 4 in order to ensure improved sound reproduction.
Loaded with a 256GB SSD, this Ubuntu-based device draws power from a 6-cell 47WHr lithium-polymer battery to cough up the juice for computing time of close to 6 hours. A spill-resistant full-size backlit chiclet keyboard comes with the notebook along with a button touchpad, capable of recognizing gestures. Its 1.3MP webcam teams up with dual array digital microphones to facilitate video conferencing over the web.
And if that’s not enough, the Dell Ultrabook boasts of Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 802.11 a/g/n with Bluetooth 3.0 and Intel Wireless Display in addition to connectivity options like a USB 3.0 port, a mini DisplayPort and a headset jack. It is pre-loaded with software and applications such as Skype, Dell DataSafe, Adobe Reader X, Windows Live Essentials Wave 4, Internet Explorer, McAfee and WebCam Central amongst others.
