Panasonic Lumix G5 mirrorless camera expands G lineup

Panasonic Lumix G5

The newest Lumix G series member, the Panasonic Lumix G5 is a digital single lens mirrorless camera that sports a 16MP Live MOS sensor. Back in April, the company had launched the Lumix GF5 that bragged about an interchangeable lens system.

The camera claims to deliver high resolution captures balanced with noise reduction to render decent quality stills. Along with features like auto exposure, it incorporates Venus Engine that offers enhanced signal processing capabilities. Users can extend the zoom range up to 4.8x without hampering the quality of images. There is also the Multi-process NR and the 3DNR for lending a touch of refinement to pictures. Owing to HDR, users can click a range of shots consecutively at different exposure levels and superimpose them to create a single image and tweak under- or over-exposure.

The camera is fitted with a 920,000-dot LCD that can tilt 270 degrees up and down and even rotate at an angle of 180 degrees to the side. There is also 1,440,000-dot equivalent LVF that claims to offer a 100% field of view. To foster easy navigation, the Panasonic Lumix G5 is equipped with a function lever that is placed near its shutter release. On employing it, users can instantly adjust the exposure levels, the aperture size and zoom and even magnify stills in playback mode or access page flip in menu mode. When clubbed with the turn-and-push rear dial, the lever is capable of fine tuning major image settings and speeding up the gadget’s operation.

Users can select between the iA and iA Plus modes slipped into the camera. Its in-built Scene Guide features 23 sample picture shots taken by professional photographers. On selecting the scene with similar conditions to the one being shot, it automatically adjusts the required settings. This gadget tags along a dedicated video recording key that is placed at the top end. It even enables users to take stills when in the recording mode, by simply clicking the shutter button. The integrated Dolby Digital Stereo Creator and Wind Cut function contribute to the audio quality.
