Amazon Kindle Touch, Touch 3G now shipping in the UK

Amazon Kindle Touch

The last we heard of the Amazon Kindle Touch and Touch 3G, the eReaders were gearing up to enter the UK on April 27. But what may delight prospective users in the aforementioned country is that these devices have already started shipping a week before the expected release.

Both the Wi-Fi as well as the 3G variants of the Kindle eReader have been outfitted with a 6-inch eInk multi-touch screen that seems like real paper, says the company. This display facilitates reading even in brightly lit surroundings. They weigh a little more than 200 grams and are capable of holding up to 3,000 books. The EasyReach feature included in these slabs, allows users to tap the screen in order to turn pages, making it ideal for one-hand use.

“Orders from customers worldwide for our new line of electronic ink Kindles have exceeded our expectations. Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G are the most full-featured eReaders available with a beautiful, latest-generation electronic ink display, fast page turns and long, two month battery life. We know that UK customers are eager to get their hands on these new Kindles, which is why we’re delighted to be able to ship several days earlier than we planned,” commented Jorrit Van der Meulen, vice president, Kindle EU.

The Amazon Kindle Touch and Touch 3G eReaders can technically cough up the juice to last for about two months, provided the wireless network connection is switched off. The lightweight and compact tabs are embedded with a USB 2.0 port each and feature text-to-speech to read English language content out loud. The 3G version of the Touch claims to offer 3G network speed at all times and free of cost, while its sibling requires Wi-Fi connectivity for internet access.

The Amazon Kindle Touch and Touch 3G price and availability details for the UK have been revealed. The former can be picked up for £109 (approx. Rs. 8,800), whereas the latter can be grabbed for £169 (approx. Rs. 13,660).
