The Roku Blog has disclosed details about the smaller and compact version of Roku 2 streaming player. The updated player that fits in one’s palm will feature a host of 3D games including Angry Birds (for XS) along with enhanced Netflix.

Three variants of the streaming player have been introduced namely, Roku 2 HD with 720p resolution whereas Roku 2 XD and Roku 2 XS with a resolution of 1080p. The XS will be coupled with an enhanced remote control, USB and Ethernet. The other two models are Bluetooth-enabled and can be used with the separately available motion remote.

Equipped with GPU, the player when combined with the Bluetooth motion remote allows playing 3D games. It aims at being a low cost gaming platform with games in the range of $5. Apart from games, it will make streaming videos and movies more enjoyable with the integration of the new version of Netflix which will support 1080p resolution picture quality and display subtitles.

The player boasts of up to 300 apps and has an open platform which will be enhanced even further. Applications like AOL HD, FOXNews and Facebook have been included in the player. Users can log into Facebook through Roku to keep in touch with friends and upload photos and videos. Additionally, there’s an option to create screen savers and YouTube will also be included at a later stage.

The Roku 2 HD, Roku 2 XD and Roku 2 XS streaming players carry a price tag of $59 (approx. Rs. 2,620), $79 (approx. Rs. 3,505) and $99 (approx. Rs. 4,395), respectively. The motion remote is available separately for $29 (approx. Rs. 1,285).
