Earlier this week, we reported about a rumor regarding the launch of Apple Thunderbolt display, and it wasn’t just a rumor after all. Apple has announced the availability of its thunderbolt-equipped display.

Claimed to be the world’s first ever display to integrate the thunderbolt I/O technology, it acts as a docking station for Mac notebook. The 27-inch display can be connected to Thunderbolt-enabled Mac devices through a single cable. The display employs a FaceTime camera and delivers high-quality audio.

“The Apple Thunderbolt Display is the ultimate docking station for your Mac notebook. With just one cable, users can dock with their new display and connect to high performance peripherals, network connections and audio devices,” quoted Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

The slim and sleek Apple Thunderbolt display is encased in aluminum and glass. Connectivity options of the display are inclusive of FireWire 800, Gigabit Ethernet, and USB 2.0. Also, the MagSafe connector can be used to charge MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. The display with IPS technology has a contrast ratio of 16:9 and a 178 degrees viewing angle.

The screen boasts of a 2.1 speaker system and the Thunderbolt port which can connect up to five Thunderbolt devices. Also, this bi-directional port has a transfer speed of 10Gbps and delivers PCI-Express to external storage devices and RAID. Additionally, with support for DisplayPort, the display is compatible with HDMI, DVI and VGA screens.

A Thunderbolt-enabled Mac can support up to two displays along with some other video recorders. The display’s light sensor adjusts brightness according to lighting conditions of the room while consuming less energy. The PVC-free, recyclable components without the brominated flame along with mercury and arsenic free technology make the display eco-friendly.

The Apple Thunderbolt display is priced at $999 (approx. Rs. 44,340) and will be available at Apple authorized retail stores and online within the next two months.
