Micromax YU Yureka is the first Cyanogen OS smartphone from the YU series

After months of teasing, the Micromax YU Yureka smartphone which is the company’s first handset to come with the custom Cyanogen OS out of the box has been officially launched in India. The device is priced at Rs 8999 and it offers a wide range of customizations.

The Micromax YU Yureka is basically being touted as a developer-friendly handset as users can freely root it and even unlock the bootloader to tinker with the software, without having to worry about warranty. Also, since it runs Cyanogen OS 11, an update to the Lollipop based CM12 should arrive soon.

The Micromax Phone will compete with the Redmi Note from Xiaomi as it falls in the same category and also is similarly sized. Like the Chinese OEM’s phablet, the YU Yureka handset offers a 5.5-inch 720p HD IPS display on the front with a 5MP camera, while the rear sports a 13MP snapper.

The memory provisions are also the same with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage being employed. And while it also offers an octa core processor, the chipset here is the beefed up 64-bit enabled Snapdragon 615 from Qualcomm with LTE support. Of course, dual SIM card slots are onboard and you get 4G on one SIM and 3G on the other. The battery capacity, however, is a bit disappointing at 2500mAh.
