Pentax K-5 II and K-5 IIs cameras have ‘ruggedness’ written all over them

Pentax K-5 II DSLR

The Pentax K-5 II and K-5 IIs DSLR cameras are the latest addition to the company’s lineup. They are not only dust- and water-resistant, but also can withstand temperature drops. Each snapper is cast in a durable magnesium alloy cover that is surrounded by a rugged stainless steel chassis.

Both devices are built around dimensions of 5.2 x 3.8 x 2.9 inches and tip the scales at approximately 23.3 ounces. Other than that, they share features like a 16.3MP CMOS image sensor, 3-inch TFT air-gap-free scratch-resistant LCD as well as an 11-point Safox X AF system with a light wavelength sensor and modes like AF Single and AF Continuous. The cameras provide an ISO range of 100 to 12800 that can go as low as ISO 80 or rise up to ISO 51200 through the custom function. Also, they come with ISO-specific noise reduction that caters to eliminating background disturbances.

“The new K-5 II and K-5 IIs deliver an extensive range of photographic possibilities for the resolution-conscious photographer in all of us. As a successor to our popular K-5 camera, these new models offer upgraded features designed to produce superb image quality, including the new AF sensor which is especially useful for photographers working in low light conditions,” explained John Carlson, Senior Manager of Sales and Marketing, Pentax.

New K-5 IIs

The Pentax K-5 II and K-5 IIs are capable of recording full HD videos at a rate of 25fps. They are said to deliver 100 percent field of view and about 0.92x magnification through the glass pentaprism viewfinder. Both provide a body-based Shake Reduction system that’s compatible with all lenses from the company as well as render support to SDXC memory cards and an HDMI port. Each device is capable of capturing roughly 980 images on a single charge. The latter comes without the anti-aliasing filter in order to enhance the quality of images.

The Pentax K-5 II and K-5 IIs prices stand at $1,199.95 (approx. Rs. 66,480) and $1,299.95 (approx. Rs. 72,030), respectively. Their release date is slated for October and they will be available via retail outlets nationwide and online.
