Nikon has augmented its AW series of Coolpix compact cameras with AW100/AW100s offered in options of white, blue, orange, black and camouflaged forms. The water, shock and cold resistant Nikon Coolpix AW100/AW100s camera comprises unique features like map display, GPS, electronic compass and is said to be apt for capturing outdoor images in extreme weather conditions.
The stylishly designed device allows capturing high-definition images and shooting active scenes. Offering 16.0 million pixels, the camera comes with a 5x optical zoom Nikkor lens and an Expeed C2 image-processing engine. Capable of withstanding drops and low temperatures, this waterproof device includes the Underwater scene mode to adjust white balance for better color reproduction.
Also, the backside illumination CMOS image sensor allows shooting images with low noise at high sensitivities. It is integrated with the electronic VR (vibration reduction) function to eliminate blurring effects from pictures captured underwater in low lighting conditions. The Action Control feature of the camera allows flexibility as it assigns effects through the single action button.
The built-in A-GPS and electronic compass record position information which can be viewed on the camera’s world map. The log function of the camera acquires the position information to record movement even if the camera is switched off. These logs can be saved in the device to be displayed on its monitor. The POI (point of interest) settings can be utilized to record and display names of places which can then be viewed on Google Earth and shared through Nikon’s website, my Picturetown.
The camera is fitted with a 3-inch TFT LCD monitor to preview images. Needless to say it offers a number of scene modes in addition to smart portrait. The auto mode can be used to assign suitable scenes while its tracking function targets a particular subject. The device can be used to shoot HD movies of resolution 1920 x 1080 with stereo sound. Additionally, it allows attaching 40.5mm diameter filters utilizing the filter adaptor.
