Leica seems to be on a camera releasing spree, as along with the M Monochrom and V-Lux 40, the company has also announced the availability of the Leica X2. In addition to the Leica Elmarit 24 mm f/2.8 ASPH lens, the imager integrates the APS-C format professional CMOS sensor to improve the picture quality.

Featuring an auto focus system, the X2 has been loaded with manual as well as automatic setting options to suit the needs of creative photographers. The 16MP sensor with its 1.5 crop factor is responsible for low image noise, enhanced color reproduction and a high dynamic range. Its 2.7-inch monitor allows composing images even in bright conditions and the pop-up flash facilitates shooting in dimly lit environments. Available in shades of black and silver, the metallic snapper resembles M-cameras and comes with a high-grip leather trim.

It is said to be compatible with a range of accessories such as the 1.4MP Viso-Flex high-resolution electronic accessory finder that can be employed to shoot at unusual angles with the assistance of its 90-degree swivel function. Some others include the bright-line mirror finder for a clear view and a handgrip for one-handed photography. Needless to say, the company will also be stocking up on cases for this device and system bags to accommodate the accessories. The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom digital image processing software can be downloaded through the official website by prospective users who register their respective cameras.

The Leica X2 price details are not clear, but it is available through retailers and Leica stores in the US. The optional accessories will also hit the market soon.
