Photography enthusiasts are being offered with yet another DSLR camera called the Nikon D4, deployed with a 16.2MP sensor along with technologies which claim to ensure faster performance. Optimized to deliver quick results, the camera is capable of capturing moving objects and gets ready to shoot in about 0.012 seconds.

The device clicks high resolution JPEG or RAW files at the rate of 10 frames per second with full AF or AE, while with locked AF and AE, it delivers a rate of 11fps. Besides capturing images in poorly lit conditions, the camera features an Advanced Multi-Cam 3500 51-point AF system auto focus for faster performance as well as accuracy. Integrated with 15 cross-type sensors, it is also inclusive of the 91,000-pixel RGB 3D color matrix metering system, which detects color and brightness.

The dual card slots of this snapper are compatible with the latest UDMA-7 Compact Flash cards as well as XQD memory cards. Its key factor being the 16.2MP FX-format CMOS sensor, the camera offers ISO ranging from 100 to 12,800. Additionally, the company’s Expeed 3 image processing engine adds to the camera’s functionality. Allowing users to shoot standard NEF files and compressed RAW files, it reproduces dynamic images through the in-camera HDR function as well as the Active D-Lighting. The picture controls can be easily accessed via the dedicated button on the D4.

“Speed without accuracy is irrelevant. The status of a Nikon flagship camera is not given lightly; this next generation of Nikon’s most professional body exceeds the needs of a wide variety of both still and multimedia professionals that rely on Nikon to make their living. Besides overall performance and burst speed, the D4 provides Nikon’s most advanced AF system to date, as well as enhanced workflow speed to give professionals the edge in the field,” commented Bo Kajiwara, director of marketing, Nikon Inc.

Offering choices to record videos in resolutions of 1080p and 720p, users can fully customize the shutter speed, aperture and ISO to obtain desired results. Along with time lapse shooting and manual focus, it is included with modes like normal, subject, face detection and subject tracking. The device is embedded with a stereo headphone jack along with an HDMI port that allows sending signals directly to compliant monitors. And needless to say, photographers can compose pictures on the 3.2-inch LCD screen with auto brightness adjustment. Furthermore, the camera can be used in conjunction with lenses such as the newly released Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G Prime Lens.

The Nikon D4 DSLR camera will be showcased at the CES 2012 and it is slated to hit store shelves before the end of February for a suggested retail price of $5,999.95 (approx. Rs. 3,16,350).
