Sony Alpha NEX-5 Camera

Measuring 23.3mm at its slimmest point, the Sony Alpha NEX-5 camera promises creative possibilities along with better responsiveness and image quality. The E-mount interchangeable lens camera dressed in shades of black and silver will be released next month followed by a range of accessories including viewfinder and lenses by the end of this year.

This 16.1 megapixel camera employs faster autofocus for improved image processing in addition to the accelerated responsiveness. Similar to α NEX-7, its release time lag of about 20 milliseconds is said to be the fastest amongst interchangeable lens cameras. The Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor combines with the BIONZ image processing engine to produce low noise images.

Capable of recording AVCHD Progressive Full HD videos at a resolution of 60p, the Tracking Focus feature of the Sony Alpha NEX-5 follows a moving subject. While the sensitivity is increased to ISO 25600, it possesses common attributes like manual modes, aperture/shutter priority like most other DSLR cameras.

“The NEX-5N camera extends the sleek, minimalist design of the acclaimed NEX-5. But it’s also a giant step forward from its predecessor in terms of still image and HD video quality, Auto Focus and speed-of-capture performance,” said Ernesto Bravo, senior business manager of the alpha group at Sony Electronics.

Its stereo audio technology cancels wind noise levels while recording a video. Featuring conventional photo jargon for amateur photographers, the Photo Creativity Touch Interface of the LCD ensures flexibility. Along with in-camera effects like panorama mode, soft skin, auto HDR, anti motion blur, etc, the NEX-5N includes the Speed Priority Continuous mode which captures at a rate of 5 frames per second.

The NEX-5 camera is fitted with a 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD multitouch display which can be adjusted at different angles. Also, the screen employs the TruBlack technology for detailing and cutting down on reflections. Furthermore, Sony has also rolled out E-mount lenses, mount adaptor and other accessories like body case, lens jacket, shoulder straps and more.

The Sony Alpha NEX-5 camera is priced at $600 (approx. RS. 27,590) and $700 (approx. RS. 32,186) with the 18-55 kit zoom lens. The E-mount Telephoto zoom lenses start at $300 (approx. Rs. 13,790) while the LA-EA2 mount adaptor and FDA-EV1S OLED viewfinder carry a price tag of $400 (approx. RS. 18,390) and $350 (approx. RS. 16,091), respectively. It will be available through Sony authorized retailers.
