Motorola Motoactv arrives for fitness enthusiasts

Motorola Motoactv The latest gadget offering for fitness enthusiasts, the new Motorola Motoactv rolls in a performance tracker and a music player that can be worn on the wrist, clipped to a shirt or mounted on bike. The company’s AccuSense technology and GPS together work to track time, distance, speed, heart rate and calories burned to benefit users during exercise hours.

The gadget boasts 1.6-inch color touch screen display and weighs 35g with 46mm x 46mm x 9.6mm profile. It’s sweat-proof and water resistant and the Corning Gorilla glass also makes it scratch resistant. The Motorola Motoactv even functions as a music player and can store up to 4,000 tracks that users would like to work out to. Wearers could also turn to the built-in FM to receive music from their preferred stations. The device proffers Bluetooth 4.0 and ANT+ wireless connectivity and the gadget wirelessly syncs workout data to Motoactv.com.

“We brought the features you love in your smartphone to the fitness world with a groundbreaking addition, Motoactv,” cited Sanjay Jha, chairman and chief executive officer, Motorola Mobility. “Workout smarter without using multiple devices or even wires, with the first multi-activity music and fitness tracking device with the brains to push you beyond your limits.”

Motoactv’s music player backed by the device’s ability to calculate heart rates creates a playlist of songs to which user’s performance is recoded to be high. This is an interesting feature to have in the device if users are looking at shedding those extra kilos. Additionally, users could also connect the gadget to their Android powered smartphone and receive calls/texts when on the run. The gadget offers 5 hours of battery life when outdoors and 10 hours indoors. This may be seen as a drawback by many but considering that no workout session would extend that many hours, it should be fine.

The Motorola Motoactv 8GB and 16GB versions would come with price tags of $249 (approx. Rs.12,236) and $299 (approx. Rs. 14,694), respectively. The Motorola SF700 and Motorola SF500 sports headphones that are sold separately will be available at $149 (approx. Rs. 7,320) and $99 (approx. Rs. 4,864), correspondingly. The gadget is open for pre-order at present and it will hit outlets on November 6.
