Luke Jerram designs portrait projecting ring for wife

Image Projecting Ring

The only purpose that a ring is expected to serve may be as a decoration for the fingers. But this next piece of ornament offers something more than its conventional counterparts. Luke Jerram came up with an innovative portrait projecting ring to gift his wife on the day of their wedding.

This unique ring was constructed by choosing suitable lenses by disintegrating disposable cameras with the expertise of jeweler, Tamrakar. Small slides made from various portraits were inserted into the ring through one of its edges. The ring projects the images inserted into it with the help a lit candle or LED in a darkened space. The design of this ring draws its inspiration from Standhopes of the 19th century.

Additionally, it is also mentioned that when the image projecting ring was lost, Jerram’s wife began wearing the Talking Ring which he had gifted her for their engagement. This ring was constructed with the help of a jeweler and vinyl record manufacturer, Dubstudios. The Talking Ring is fitted with a small record player that playsback recorded messages.

The Luke Jerram website also lists other interesting projects such as Black Cloud, Candle, Fortune Poetry Machine, Hats for Dreamers, Invisible Potraits and Meteorite Catcher.
