More than 3 million new iPads sold since March 16

According to the latest update from Apple, the company has sold approximately 3 million units of the new iPad starting from the day of launch on March 16. The slate is already available in regions like the U.S., Hong Kong, Germany, France, Canada, Japan, Australia, the UK, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

It is expected to reach other nations covering Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Greece, Mexico, Liechtenstein, Poland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Macau, Iceland, Italy, Romania, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, The Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain and Slovenia on March 23. It will be retailed across Apple stores and its resellers as well as online at the official site.

“The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold―the strongest iPad launch yet. Customers are loving the incredible new features of iPad, including the stunning Retina display, and we can’t wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday,” commented Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

In terms of the principal specs of the device, it sports a 5MP iSight camera and a 9.7-inch display of the Retina type which renders 2,048 x 1,536p resolutions. It offers nearly 10 hours of battery life and functions on the A5X chip. The latest iPad has been released in color choices of black and white in 2 versions namely, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 4G.

The tablet’s price is tagged at $499 (approx. Rs. 25,160), $599 (approx. Rs. 30,200) and $699 (approx. Rs. 35,250) for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants, respectively. The new iPad Wi-Fi + 4G for AT&T and Verizon is priced at $629 (approx. Rs. 31,500), $729 (approx. Rs. 36,500) and $829 (approx. Rs. 41,500) for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB types, in that order.
