Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 will run on Windows 8 Pro

New ThinkPad Slate

Just months before the Windows 8 launch, it has been officially confirmed that the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 will pack in the Pro edition of the upcoming Microsoft OS. Powered by the Intel Atom CPU, the device will be available in 3G and 4G versions.

Measuring 9.8mm in thickness, the slate tips the scales at 600 grams. Dominating the front panel is a 10.1-inch multi-touch HD display that supports gesture inputs. Buyers can opt for a digitizer pen as well as a keyboard and dock for an enhanced user experience. The chassis is embedded with a full-sized USB port that can be employed to hook up monitors, printers and other such devices.

“Customers want a versatile device that fits their lifestyle and the many ways they use technology,” commented Dilip Bhatia, vice president and general manager, ThinkPad Business Unit. “Our new ThinkPad Tablet 2 marries incredible hardware and software to give consumers a great device for office, home or travel while also offering companies and IT managers the oversight they need to help secure and manage their company’s networks and data.”

To view content on a larger display, the slate provides an integrated HDMI port. And apart from a rear-facing camera, the slab offers a secondary snapper and a built-in noise canceling microphone that facilitate live conferencing while on the move. Features like wireless video streaming and an optional fingerprint reader are included too.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 price is still under wraps. The company has stated that the device will be available for purchase in October after the Windows 8 OS launches.
