Microsoft Surface For Windows

Microsoft has dived head first into the tablet market with its Microsoft Surface tablets PCs, running Windows RT as well as Windows 8 Pro. These slates are bundled with a magnetically attached Touch Cover, which doubles up as a multi-touch keyboard for faster typing, compared to virtual keyboards.

The Surface for Windows RT measures not more than 9.3mm in thickness and tips the scale at merely 676 grams, while the one deployed with the Windows 8 Pro platform is enclosed in a 13.5mm thick chassis weighing 903 grams. Both devices are outfitted with a 10.6-inch ClearType HD display each, and utilize the VaporMg approach for a smooth finish. A kickstand has also been attached to facilitate functions like watching movies and video conferencing amongst others.

The tablet running the Windows RT OS acquires multitasking properties from an ARM processor, whereas the Windows 8 Pro based device gets steam from the third generation Intel Core processor. These slates have been embedded with full size USB ports and a microSD card slot along with other input and output options like 2 x 2 Mimo antennae and more. Additionally, the accompanying Touch Cover will be made available in multiple colors.

The Microsoft Surface for Windows RT and Windows 8 Pro price and release date have not been mentioned. But the former’s availability will coincide with the commercial availability of the Windows 8 OS and the latter is slated to hit store shelves three months after the RT slate. It will be up for grabs through Microsoft stores in the US and select online company stores.
