The Lenovo ThinkPad tablet which was announced a couple of weeks back will now be available on sale online and through its network of U.S. business partners. Running on Android 3.1, the 10.1-inch device has been specially developed for business and professional use.

This tablet features an optional digitizer pen, a mini-HDMI for connecting to external displays and provides access to more than 2,50,000 apps in the Android Market as well as the Lenovo App Shop. It also possesses a keyboard folio case with optical TrackPoint and a full-size USB port and SD card slot.

“The ThinkPad Tablet gives mobile professionals the most intuitive user experience available on a tablet today, thanks to its unique pen-based handwriting recognition technology. We wanted to replicate the way people work naturally with pen and paper by allowing them to digitally write, draw and create content while also optimizing the ThinkPad Tablet for business with a layered security solution and full IT management,” commented Dilip Bhatia, vice president and general manager, ThinkPad Business Unit, Lenovo.

Users of the ThinkPad are enabled to view and edit Microsoft Office documents while synchronizing with their desktops through USB or Bluetooth with the Documents to Go by DataViz app. Owing to its pen and virtual desktop support via the Citrix Receiver they can make use of their corporate tools even when not in office. The company’s SocialTouch app keeps track of email and calendar notices, while the OoVoo feature simplifies video conferences by employing the front-facing camera.

IT managers can receive secure corporate email through Good for Enterprise. They are also enabled to easily configure security and device settings with custom corporate preloads from the Imaging Technology Center. The tablet eases manageability with the open API set that provides for zero-touch deployment and management though LANDesk.

The Lenovo ThinkPad tablet is now available online and from business partners. The 16GB model is priced at $529(approx. Rs. 24,276) with the digitizer pen and $499(approx. Rs. 22,900) without it. The 32GB version including the digitizer pen comes for a price of $599(approx. Rs. 27,488), while the 64GB one with the pen has a price tag of $699(approx. Rs. 32,074) attached to it. The optional keyboard portfolio case is priced at $100(approx. Rs. 4,588).
