The upcoming WD My Book Thunderbolt Duo dual-drive storage system has made its first appearance at the Macworld/iWorld show. The system deployed with the Thunderbolt technology, claims to offer ultra-fast data transfer rates.

This storage device is said to be apt for professional users and enthusiasts who deal with large digital content files containing audio, videos or images as it improves the workflow speed. The aforementioned Thunderbolt technology utilized in this unit can produce about 10 gigabits per second of throughput in both directions on its two channels.

“Thunderbolt technology offers the speed needed for creative professionals and enthusiasts who produce, edit, or need quick access to large files, including HD video. During the demonstration, twin Thunderbolt ports show amazing flexibility while allowing daisy-chaining of up to six My Book Thunderbolt Duo systems or other high performance peripherals for an enhanced workflow process. The combination of storage, backup, and speed could make the My Book Thunderbolt Duo the only drive a creative pro would ever need,” commented Jody Bradshaw, general manager of WD’s consumer storage solutions.

Although the exact transfer speed of this Western Digital media storage system has not been mentioned by the company, it is believed to be capable of transferring a standard size full-length HD movie in about 30 seconds. Moreover, it is said to be so fast that it can back up 8,600 hours of music in close to 10 minutes. The high read as well as write speeds of the device should be of advantage for applications like 3D rendering, video editing or a number of other graphics projects.
