SanDisk Extreme SSD

The SanDisk Extreme SSD is the latest arrival in tech terrain to address the storage needs of potential users. This freshly released solid state drive can apparently boot a PC in less than 16 seconds and is said to provide a power efficient, durable and reliable computing experience.

The new SSD is capable of delivering random write speeds of up to 83,000 IOPS and random read speeds of up to 44,000 IOPS. It offers high sequential read and write performances of up to 550MB/s and 520MB/s, respectively. Claiming to be up to 10 times faster as compared to a 7,200 RPM hard disk drive, this SanDisk device doesn’t consist of any moving parts and thus, the risk of data loss due to shock and vibration is drastically reduced.

Kent Perry, director, product marketing, SanDisk, quipped, “Computer wait times are becoming a thing of the past thanks to SSDs. Our SanDisk Extreme SSD delivers virtually instant boot and shutdown times along with faster application launches. It’s a huge improvement to the computing experience.”

The Extreme SSD touts to be apt for gaming enthusiasts as it can reportedly launch applications in an instant and decrease in-game delays by generating environments in a fast manner during sequence transitions. This seems to come in handy especially while playing multiplayer online role-playing games. The company states that it consumes 30 percent less power than a hard disk drive and is easy to install into a computer’s SATA port.

The 120GB SanDisk Extreme SSD price is tagged at $189.99 (approx. Rs. 9,405) and the 240GB version comes for a price of $399.99 (approx. Rs. 19,805). While these two capacity drives are currently available across the world at authorized retail outlets, a 480GB variant is slated to commence shipping later this year with a price tag of $749.99 (approx. Rs. 37,145) attached to it.
