Ubuntu phone becomes a reality thanks to new BQ Aquaris E4.5

The Ubuntu OS has been around since long, but the plans of its makers have finally materialized and the software can now be found on the BQ Aquaris E4.5 smartphone. This is not a completely new device, as it already exists in the form of a model that runs the Android 4.4 KitKat OS.

Nonetheless, the new variant with Ubuntu onboard is being launched in Europe today. The BQ Aquaris E4.5 has been priced at €170 which translates approximately to $192 or Rs 12000. That price also indicates that the specs of the device will be nothing to write home about.

It provides you with a qHD screen of 4.5 inches in size, and runs on a MediaTek-made quad core Cortex A7 processor clocked at 1.3GHz. 1GB worth of RAM has been granted to it, apart from dual SIM slots, 8GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a 2150mAh battery. Sized at 137 x 67 x 9mm, this Ubuntu phone from BQ carries onboard an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front snapper.

The software on the Aquaris E4.5 features a unique tab-based user interface that groups information into various categories to make it easier for you to access it. Moreover, the Ubuntu OS apparently also learns from previous experiences to rearrange the content based on your habits.
