The Samsung Ativ Odyssey has hit the availability status through Verizon Wireless for a price of under $50. While the company has already launched the Ativ S in certain markets across the world, the device in question is the first Windows Phone 8 handset from the South Korean manufacturer to make its debut in the US.
The Ativ Odyssey comes across as a decent WP8 device graced by a 4-inch Super AMOLED multi-touch screen. It can render clear visuals in 800 x 480p resolution and tags along a virtual QWERTY keyboard as well. A 1.2MP front-mounted webcam is in place to enable prospective users to make video calls over the web. Apart from this, it is the proud owner of a 5MP auto focus snapper complete with LED flash which is even accompanied by a dedicated camera button to launch the application instantly.
Microsoft’s OS bestows the handset with multiple features including Live Tiles and Live Apps to keep important information and tools on the start screen. Additionally, it extends support to applications like Xbox, Outlook, Office, OneNote, SharePoint, SkyDrive and more developed by the software company. The device measuring 2.5 x 4.82 x 0.43 inches, tips the scales at merely 4.4 ounces.
Deployed with 1GB of RAM, the smartphone gains steam from a 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Krait MSM8960 processor. It provides 8GB of onboard memory and the option to increase it further by inserting a microSD card of not more than 64GB capacity in the dedicated expansion slot.
Compatible with the service provider’s 4G LTE network, it ensures wireless internet access if there’s an open hotspot, thanks to built-in Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n. The Global Ready phone boasts of attributes like Bluetooth and NFC for wireless data transfer and a 3.5mm headphone jack for connecting audio peripherals. It is fueled by a 2100mAh lithium-ion battery that claims to cough up the juice for usage time of close to 19 hours at a stretch.
The Samsung Ativ Odyssey is now available for $49.99 (approx. Rs. 2,685) after a mail-in rebate of $50 with a two-year customer agreement and qualifying data plans through Verizon Wireless.
