Apple inspires Samsung to reintroduce EMI scheme in India

Samsung EMI Scheme

Samsung has planned to reintroduce its EMI scheme in India for high-end devices, after Apple managed to boost sales of the iPhone 5 in the similar fashion. The South Korean manufacturer had first taken advantage of this method in September 2012 when it introduced the flagship Galaxy S3 in the country.

Times of India got in touch with the Vice-President Asim Warsi who confirmed that they have launched the EMI scheme again for Galaxy devices after sensing consumers’ interest in high-end smartphones. The OEM has already designed an advertisement campaign around the new system and as opposed to the American tech giant, the former has decided to make it even more widespread by involving local retailers. Furthermore, a representative has confirmed that this offer will be valid for more than a month.

We understand that the Korean conglomerate has managed to grab the lion’s share in the Rs. 20,000-plus handset segment after introducing this format for the S3. Its market share by value in this segment is of 55 percent and a lot of credit for the same goes to the newest 5.5-inch phablet, the Note 2. Prospective users can make the most of the installment system for select phones and tablets which include Galaxy S3 and S2, Note and Note 2, Ace, Y, Grand and even Tab 310.

The aforesaid publication has also mentioned about the similarities between the schemes of the two concerned companies for their respective flagship smartphones. Customers can pick up the iPhone 5 by making a down payment of Rs. 16,990. They are then required to pay EMIs of Rs. 2,376 for the next 12 months. As far as the Note 2 in concerned, it is available with 12 EMIs of Rs. 2,999 each.

Those planning to lay their hands on the latest generation phablet can expect an HD Super AMOLED 1280 x 720p touchscreen, a 1.6GHz quad core processor and the Android Jelly Bean 4.1 OS. The ICS-based S3 is powered by a quad core chipset as well and flaunts a 4.8-inch touchscreen. The latest addition to the range is the Galaxy Grand complete with Android 4.1.2, a dual core processor and a 5-inch screen.
