That the Samsung Galaxy Grand was headed to our shores was a known fact, but its price in India was where the big question mark lay. The device got officially unveiled for the country only a few hours back at an event held in Mumbai. Although it exists in dual SIM as well as single SIM formats, only the former has been released in the country for now, with the latter slated to come out shortly. Its cost has been pinned down at Rs. 21,500, and it can now be purchased through certain retailers.
The Galaxy Grand had been introduced by the South Korean manufacturer earlier this year as a mid-range phone aimed at emerging markets. A number of advanced specifications form part of it. To start with, it houses the Android Jelly Bean OS as its chief software. Although version 4.1.2 will be available out of the box, an update to the 4.2 variant is expected to be released for it later this year. Its screen size has been marked at 5 inches, making it slightly larger than the S3, and a little smaller than the Note 2.
This WVGA TFT LCD screen is able to dole out its visuals at a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. This large display allows it to gain Samsung’s Multi Window feature which enables seamless multitasking by dividing the screen into two parts, and utilizing them for different functions at the same time. At the heart of the device lies a 1.2GHz dual core processor which is accompanied by 1GB worth of RAM.
Apart from 8GB of hoarding memory, a microSD card slot for expansions till up to 64GB also forms part of its offerings. Its imaging options are highlighted by an 8MP snapper which can record videos at full HD 1080p. A front HD snapper with a 2MP sensor is also available with it. This smartphone runs on a 2,100mAh battery, and has its dimensions set at 143.7mm x 769.9mm x 9.6mm. Essentials like Bluetooth, GPS, DLNA, Wi-Fi and more are present on it as well.
At the moment, the dual SIM model of the Samsung Galaxy Grand is selling via Infibeam. Some of the other eTailers have it listed, but it’s not in stock with them. Vodafone customers are being given 2GB worth of free data per month for 2 months with each purchase.
