Apple iPhone 5 to sport a 19-pin mini connector?

iPhone 5 19-Pin Connector

We have heard speculation in the past regarding Apple considering a micro dock for its next generation smartphone and the latest set of iPhone 5 rumors suggest it will employ a 19-pin mini connector. It will most probably replace the 30-pin port embedded in most of the iDevices.

TechCrunch has managed to extract this information from three independent manufacturers, who have confirmed the reports about Apple routing for the smaller connector. The website rightly observes that the iPhone accessory manufacturers are bound to be shocked by this piece of information and we couldn’t agree more. Additionally, the company has not announced it officially as yet and that further adds to the woes of these accessory manufacturers.

This 19-pin connector appears pretty similar to the Thunderbolt port, seen in the MacBook Air and Pro laptops and it is expected to be inspired by the MagSafe and MagSafe 2 power cables. As we had reported back in February, the reason behind choosing a smaller pin is assumed to be the fruity giant’s intentions of packing in additional features in the next generation smartphone.

If some other suppositions are to be believed, the upcoming device will pack 4G network speed compatibility in addition to a battery bigger than the one utilized in the current generation iPhone. Apple may also be working towards a larger form factor and including support for the nano-SIM card.

Once again, the company has chosen to keep mum over the conjecture surrounding the iPhone 5 features. We’ll have to wait for it to officially release the smartphone to find out what the tech giant has in store, this time around. The phone is expected to be released later this year.
