One tenth of mobile phone owners in U.S. have an iPhone: comScore report

comScore has announced the results of its report for the period ending October 2011, according to which one out of ten mobile phone owners in the U.S. had an iPhone. The outcome of this study is based on the observations of more than 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers who were surveyed over a period of three months, from August to October this year.

As per this survey which was delivered by the comScore MobiLens service, Samsung has retained its top position of the number one mobile phone manufacturer like it did in the three-month span ending on July 2011, with a total market share of 25.5 percent. The OEM that bragged about the second position was LG which claimed 20.6 percent of the market share, while the third place was taken by Motorola with 13.6 percent share.

Rounding up the top five in the OEM race were Apple with 10.8 percent share and RIM with 6.6 percent of the market share and these companies stood at fourth and fifth positions, respectively. According to this latest comScore study, the number of people using smartphones in the U.S. has accelerated by 10 percent as compared to the earlier survey. As per the report, around 90 million people in the U.S. used smartphones.

This survey discovered that the coveted position of the most used mobile platform was once again bagged by Google Android which boasted of 46.3 percent of the market share. Yet again, the second most popular mobile platform was Apple which captured 28.1 percent of the smartphone market and RIM came in third with 17.2 percent share. Microsoft and Symbian took up the fourth and fifth places with 5.4 percent and 1.6 percent shares, correspondingly.

Some other findings of the comScore MobiLens report state that 71.8 percent subscribers used text messaging on their mobile phones and 44 percent browsed the web from their handsets.
