comScore report says Google takes on Apple, Microsoft and RIM to emerge victorious

comScore LogoAs part of a three month survey conducted by comScore, the MobileLens service reported its key findings. The data provided by the company covers the study of around thirty thousand mobile subscriber in the U.S only. Among all handset manufacturers, Samsung had the highest rate of devices manufactured at 24.8% whereas, Google Android stood up tall among smartphone platforms at 38.1% market share.

The report states that around two hundred and thirty four users aged, 13 and older operated mobile devices. The OEM market reports Samsung to be ranked as top-most sold devices at 24.8% with LG not so far behind at 21.1% and Motorola at 15.1% market share. Apple appeared to be fourth in position with 8.7% and RIM lacking behind at 8.1%

From the 76.8 million smartphones owned in the U.S, Google Android claimed the top operating system position with 38.1% market share. Unlike in the OEM reports Apple has achieved second position with 26.6% shares followed by RIM at 24.7%. Microsoft and Palm came in last at 5.8% and 2.4% of total market share.

The mobile content usage marked the end of the report. The total amount of users that sent text messages from their devices to other was 69.5% of total subscribers,39.8% of the used their mobiles for accessing the web and 38.6% downloaded content like applications onto their devices. Social networking sites were viewed by 28.6% while 26.9% of the mobile audience played games. Among all smartphones, only 18.6% of them were used to entertainment.

There’s no doubt that Google Android appears to be in high demand. But with the introduction of newer phones every day it’s uncertain any OS manufacturer reigns over the market for a long period of time.
