AT&T has announced the availability of Samsung Rugby phone in the US. The latest military-grade handset is said to be the first rugged handset to feature AT&T’s advance Video Share calling and Push to Talk network.

The 3G-capable Rugby is based on quad-band GSM technology and promises to offer high-speed internet browsing. It also comes with Assisted-GPS technology and AT&T Navigator with points of interest and turn-by-turn navigation.

Designed for fieldwork use, the flip handset shows off its Video Share that allows users to observe the progress on a job site or review the day’s work without visiting the workplace.

“As AT&T’s best-in-class rugged device, only Rugby brings users like construction foremen and landscape designers the ability to share live video from one phone to another,” mentioned Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Business Marketing and Operations for AT&T’s wireless operations. “Employees can literally see more than one work site at one time.”

Complying with military standards, the rugged Rugby has the ability to resist dust, shock, vibration, rain, humidity, solar radiation, altitude and temperature extremes. Housed in a rubberized metal casing, the clamshell mobile phone ensures a strong grip.

“Samsung has developed a sturdy phone that can stand up to the roughest of environments,” commented Bill Ogle, Chief Marketing Officer, Samsung Telecommunications America. “It is a no-nonsense device with easy-to-use features and a simple, one-touch button to keep you in touch with your contacts.”

The other essential feature of the Samsung Rugby is the AT&T’s Push to Talk (PTT) service that enables users to pull an entire work group into a wireless call. With the included external speakers, users can communicate with ease. Additionally, users can even set their status to available, unavailable and do not disturb amongst others.

The Samsung Rugby phone also sports AT&T’s Enterprise Paging, which promises a quick connection to workforce via text messaging from a central location.

In terms of multimedia features, the robust handset includes Cellular Video and AT&T Mobile Music, sophisticated messaging options, a 1.3 megapixel camera with video capture, Bluetooth technology and a microSD memory card slot.

Available in black, deep burgundy and construction yellow color options, the Samsung Rugby mobile phone carries a price tag of $129.99 (approx. Rs. 6,023) with a two-year service agreement. It can be purchased through select AT&T retail locations or at AT&T website.
