Nokia is offering to replace 46 million BL-5C batteries manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co., Ltd. of Japan between December 2005 and November 2006. Nokia said that in rare cases users might face battery overheating problem.
Nokia said that approximately 100 complaints of overheating are registered globally. However, no injuries or any kind of damages have been reported.
The BL-5C is a widely used battery and is used in a lot of Nokia handsets. Users will find the name ‘BL-5C’ printed on the front of the battery.
Users can check the Nokia website to know if the battery in their mobile phone is affected.
No other Nokia batteries are facing such problems and are safe to be used in the mobile phones.

I have a Nokia 2118 bought for me at the beginning of the year and have repeatedly asked my daughter when speaking to her on the Nokia ,whether her phone heats up when she’s talking to me…in fact a couple of times I have had to hang up because it was too hot against my ear!!! My Nokia N70’s battery blew up yesterday. I didn’t know about the faulty batteries but experience that the battery got very hot when charging. It happened yesterday for the third time and I thought that perhaps it is a faulty charger. I charged it on another Nokia charger and while watching TV heard a small bang and my cell phone dropped to the floor. The battery overheated and blew up. It was red hot. It was then that we search the internet for Nokia batteries and saw the flaw in the BL- 5C batteries.
Luckily I was not talking on the cell phone at that time. The cell phone is still working after it was put through that temperature.
