Nokia 3110 Evolve Green Phone Unveiled

Nokia 3110 Evolve handset At Nokia World 2007, the Finnish company introduced a new mobile phone, dubbed Nokia 3110 Evolve to contribute in environmental issues. This handset commits to drive a new program in the mobile industry in areas including energy efficiency, materials used in products, take back, recycling and packaging.

The Eco-friendly 3110 comes with bio-covers that are developed from over 50 percent renewable materials. The package of the phone is made of 60 percent recycled content. In terms of energy efficient charger, Nokia uses 94 percent less energy than the Energy Star requirements.

This is not the first environment-related initiative of the company. Earlier, it had put alerts into its device ensuring users to unplug their chargers when it’s done, saving energy to power 100,000 average-size European homes.

The mobile phone manufacturer has also come up with a new compact packaging that reduced materials used by 54 percent. This resulted in achieving around 5,000 fewer trucks that were required to distribute products and thus reduced fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

I hope that this initiative would help the company to boost its position in the Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics.
