Olympus Tough TG-1 01

The Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS has been added to the rugged camera portfolio of the company for photography enthusiasts who seek durability as well as enhanced image quality. Similar to its predecessors, this snapper boasts of its ability to offer resistance from spills, shocks, dust as well as extremely low temperatures.

Apparently, it is the first of its kind to feature high speed a f2.0 lens to facilitate capturing images in poorly lit environments. Besides the water repellant lens, it comes with a 3-inch OLED display complete with a protective layer to avoid scratches and reflective glare. Besides enduring as much as 220 pounds of weight, the camera can continue working in water to a depth of up to 40 feet or in conditions with low temperatures of about 14°F. Accidental drops from close to 6.6 feet are also said to be unable to stop the imager from functioning.

The 12MP camera is powered by the TruePic VI image processor and captures images from a distance, courtesy its 8x super-resolution zoom. The Super Sport mode brings high-speed auto focus and a shutter speed of about 1/2000, while the Low Light mode can be used for indoor shooting or in low lit conditions. The burst shooting mode allows recording 1080p HD videos at the rate of 5 frames per second or videos at 60 frames per second for slow-motion playback. The iHS technology, Multi-Motion IS and Linear PCM recording team up to produce decent quality videos.
