Sony kills off NEX-3 interchangeable lens camera

We can’t really say ‘Who would’ve seen it coming?’. We were at the Sony press event when the company launched the NEX-5 and NEX-3 cameras in India and the fact that both shared a lot of the specs did make a mark back then. It now looks like Sony has decided to axe the NEX-3 camera and there’s a bit of evidence to back the rumors.

Try shopping for the two cameras through the Sony global website. The ‘shop cameras’ option by the NEX-3 led us to a page stating that Sony Style is temporarily unavailable. On the other hand, the Sony NEX-5 can be added to the wishlist without any trouble just as pictured below.

The ‘little big shot’ is probably not doing as well as the ‘pocket professional’ considering that the former offers 720p video recording, while the latter extends 1080i of the same. Additionally, the NEX-3’s price point may not seem much higher than the NEX-5’s tag for those willing to shell out the change for a higher end camera.

We’ve just been informed by a Sony representative that NEX-3 camera sales will only be discontinued in Japan.

Update: Sony Style is currently selling the camera at a discounted price of $499.99 (approx Rs. 22,687), which is $50 (approx. Rs. 2,268) less than the original tag.
