Sony reveals NEX-5 and NEX-3 Interchangeable Lens Digital Cameras in India

Those who’d really love to own a high-end power-packed camera in a condensed size may drool all over this next offering. At a press event held today in Mumbai, India, Sony has launched its new α NEX-5 and NEX-3 interchangeable lens digital camera for DSLR quality images.

The innovative models enable capturing of high quality pictures with the 14.2 megapixel Exmor. Both the cameras are embedded with the background defocus function which allows users to defocus the background of a photo and make their main subject stand out from the scene. All eyes are bound to set over the highlighted subject. Be it a moving train or a football kick, the included 7fps shooting speed may come handy for users to snap photos with crystal clear clarity.

“The launch of α NEX-5 and NEX-3 marks a milestone for Sony as it yet again reinforces our strength in introducing new and revolutionary products in the market. These cameras are unique as they narrow the gap between professional and consumer segments and deliver the best imaging expertise in the hands of amateurs,” enthused Masaru Tamagawa, Managing Director, Sony India. “We believe that these cameras would surely create excitement among Indian consumers who are dynamic and vibrant and receptive to new products and technologies.”

The newest α NEX-5 and NEX-3 cameras sport an intuitive design and are filled to the brim with enhanced attributes. Weighing just about 229g, the NEX-5 series subsumes a variant which measures a mere 24.2mm thick and can be easily slid into pockets or handbags. The intriguing modes of the portfolios are priority continuous, iAuto, handheld twilight, scene recognition and more. Interestingly, the 3-inch Xtra fine LCD monitor can be tilted 80 degrees up and 45 degrees down for flexible views. It also boasts of a high 921,600 dot resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Equipped with the same 3D Sweep Panorama technology used in the existing Cyber-shot TX lineup, these devices can shoot realistic three dimensional images. These snapshots can then be displayed on compatible Bravia 3D TVs through an optional HDMI cable. Incorporated with the TruBlack technology, the cameras ensure dramatization of images as well. Additionally, the NEX-5 delivers full HD 1080i movie recording in AVCHD format, whereas the NEX-3 shoots 720pHD videos in MP4 format. What’s more, their high speed Bionz processor lends richer tonal gradation for further prominence.

The black Sony α NEX-5 is priced at Rs. 34,990, while the red and black α NEX-3 costs Rs. 29,990. These devices will be up for grabs in this month across all Sony centers and major retail outlets in India. When questioned about the high pricing points, Sony’s representatives at the launch replied to folks at our end on how the Indian market needs good quality cameras regardless of their prices.
