Affordable HCL Me Champ tablet for kids launched in India

The kids tablet segment has a new member in the form of the HCL Me Champ that falls in the budget-friendly category considering that it sets users back by merely Rs 7,499. It is currently available in the country through leading retail stores, official HCL website and shopping portals.

Based on the Android Jelly Bean 4.1 OS, the kids tablet offers a multi-touch real estate of 7 inches. Its capacitive display can render visuals in 800 x 480p resolution. Apart from the screen, the front panel is also fitted with a VGA webcam for video conferencing purposes, while the rear surface plays host to a 2MP camera complete with video recording capability. The HCL device is capable of playing 1080p videos as well.

A 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor is responsible for maintaining smooth multitasking at all times and it is accompanied by a Mali-400 GPU for enhanced graphics. 1GB of RAM has been tossed in along with 4GB of onboard memory and a microSD card for expanding the latter by up to 32GB. The slate draws power from a 3100mAh battery which should keep it going for at least an entire day.

Considering that it has been designed for kids, the device is said to be loaded with some educative features and studies-related exercises. There are interactive books as well as cartoons for keeping children entertained. And if that’s not enough, parental controls have been added for ensuring that children do not get access to inappropriate content on the internet.
