Move over board games and Barbie dolls, the Oregon Scientific Meep! tablet seems to be the latest toy for ‘a tech-hungry generation of kids’ to have hit the town. The slab has been specifically designed for kids and boasts of multimedia features along with parental controls.

The slate for children, will be running the Google Android OS, but the company has not yet specified if it will binge on Ice Cream Sandwich or stick to the tablet-optimized Honeycomb platform. Needless to say, the device will offer access to the Android Market. The front panel of the Meep! tab is dominated by a color multi-touch display spanning 7 inches.

As it is aimed at kids aged 6 years and above, the company has given special attention to ensure that it endures all that they can put it through. The durable slab claims to sport a tough exterior in addition to a rubber silicon sleeve that should make it capable of withstanding drops and scratches. The multimedia-ready tablet can play back audio and video files as well as support eBooks.

The Wi-Fi enabled device also provides internet access. Deployed with a G-Sensor, it is embedded with an expansion slot to increase the memory using an SD card. Moreover, it can be remotely monitored via an internet based system or mobile device with the assistance of the included parental controls. This helps parents to decide what can be viewed on the tab and which websites cannot be accessed.

The Oregon Scientific Meep! tablet was showcased at the TIA Toy Fair held yesterday. The company will also be introducing accessories for this slate that will be sold separately.
