eReading just became a less expensive affair with the recent announcement of the Sony Reader Wi-Fi price slash. Launched a few months ago, Engadget has reported that this eReader will now be available at an amount that is about $20 less than the original price tag it flaunted.

The company claims that this is the lightest eReader that currently exists in the market with a weight of 167g. It is incorporated with a 6-inch 600 x 800p eInk Pearl touchscreen display featuring Clear Touch Infrared technology. Users can store their reading material in the 1.3GB onboard memory that this device offers and additional content may also be integrated by expanding the capacity by up to 32GB through the microSD card slot.

Measuring 6” x 4.3” x 3”, the Sony device is powered by a built-in rechargeable 3.7V DC battery. It can apparently work optimally for three to four weeks on a single charge if used for half an hour daily. It is capable of providing up to 14,000 continuous page turns while reading.

Compatible with Wi-Fi IEEE802.11b/g/n, this eReader comes accompanied by a USB cable and a stylus pen for reading. Sporting a slim profile of 0.35 inches, it offers users easy access to more than 2 million titles online via the Reader Store. Users will also be able to download Google public domain books as well as avail of instant access to websites like Wikipedia and Google search.

The Sony Reader Wi-Fi was previously priced at $149.99, but is now available with a $20 cut for a price of $129.99 (approx. Rs. 7,660). It can be bought from authorized electronic retail stores and online at store.sony.com.
