Imation and Sun Microsystems have signed the global distribution agreement. In accordance to this agreement, Imation has announced that it will distribute Sun Microsystems’ StorageTek Linear Tape Open (LTO) Ultrium data cartridges in India. These data cartridges will be made available in India via neoteric informatique ltd.
The StorageTek flaunts its higher capacity levels. This feature enables users to handle more data in less time. These data cartridges are said to be ideal for archiving, backup and restore and disaster recovery applications. The memory of these cartridges is said to minimize the access time for faster restores.
According to Sandeep Popli, Head – Sales & Marketing, Imation India Pvt. Ltd., “Today’s 24×7 business environment requires more data backups in a very limited period of time. Sun StorageTek’s LTO Ultrium technology is the most economical yet high performance solution for midrange tape automation. Besides, users can choose from a variety of products, Sun StorageTek delivers the performance and the capacity they need.â€
Sun StorageTek LTO Ultrium data cartridges are compatible with the tape drives from all three of the manufacturers of LTO Ultrium devices. These data cartridges include the LTO Ultrium 4, LTO Ultrium 3 and LTO Ultrium 2. These cartridges are compatible with WORM-enabled as well as non-WORM-enabled devices.
“The ability to store 800 GB on one cartridge without compression (1.6 TB with compression) reduces their media and hardware investment, whilst accommodating data growth. Limited backup windows process more information in a very short time. Dynamic rate matching and dual mode compression enhance tape-drive performance and product lifetime,†adds Sandeep Popli.
The LTO Ultrium 4 systems make use of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256-bit algorithms to ensure data security and safety. The other notable features of the Sun StorageTek LTO Ultrium data cartridges include highly reliable metal particle media, unique dual-coating process and improved substrate that delivers greater durability and stability.
The pricing and availability details of the Imation distributed Sun StorageTek LTO Ultrium data cartridges are not revealed.
