AMD Radeon HD 7970 graphics card employs 28nm process technology

AMD Radeon HD 7970

The single-GPU graphics card for PCs dubbed AMD Radeon 7970 takes gaming and computing to another level with its improved performance as compared to the previous generation. Its high speed is attributed to the 28nm production technology and it is deployed with a number of other exclusive attributes.

Apparently, the latest architecture with GPU design enhancements helps clocking in a 150 percent better outcome. The AMD App Acceleration of this card renders improved HD video images of everyday applications, while the Eyefinity technology is apt for gamers as it supports up to 6 displays. It delivers 3D performance as well as horizontal resolutions of about 12,800 pixels on these monitors. Enhanced quality is achieved through the PCIe 3.0 and the added acceleration is due to the integrated GDDR5 memory.

“The AMD Radeon HD 7970 is an awesome tool in any gamer’s arsenal. We have worked closely with AMD during the development of the Frostbite 2 game engine to take full advantage of AMD Eyefinity multi-display technology and DirectX 11 for a more realistic, entertaining and visceral gaming experience in Battlefield 3,” stated Johan Andersson, Rendering Architect at DICE.

The AMD PowerTune and AMD ZeroCore power technologies assist with the power consumption bit and saves energy when the card is not in use. These technologies avoid power wastage as well as cut down on heat and noise from additional cards. Its Discrete Digital Multi-Point (DDM) Audio allows streaming audio through DisplayPort or HDMI connectors for audio-capable monitors. Moreover, the incorporated AMD CrossFire technology is said to be one of the best multi-GPU gaming platforms. Besides 3D gaming and Blu-ray 3D movies, it extends support to DirectCompute and OpenCL.

The AMD Radeon HD 7970 price starts at $549 (approx. Rs. 28,935) and it will be available starting January 9, around the globe.
