The newest peripheral on the block is the recently released Cricket Huawei Boltz 4G LTE modem. This marks the commencement of Cricket’s parent company, Leap Wireless International‘s shift to 4G LTE in the Tucson, Arizona Cricket market. With this device, the company has announced its transition from the existing 3G network to 4G LTE.

The new 4G LTE network will apparently be covering more than 90 percent of Cricket’s Tucson market footprint. Boasting of a lightweight, sleek form factor, the Huawei Boltz comes equipped with a hinge and is capable of pivoting to any USB 2.0 configuration.

Doug Hutcheson, president and CEO of Leap, stated, “The introduction of Cricket 4G LTE in Tucson as our first commercial market is an early milestone in our transition to LTE that will allow us to continue to offer our customers high-quality products and services with the latest technology at the value price they’ve come to expect. Cricket is the leader in providing the best value in the wireless industry. That leadership comes from introducing new products and services, like LTE, in a thoughtful manner and on a timeline that is appropriate for our value conscious customers.”

As the company suggests, users can expand the internal memory up to 32GB via the embedded microSD card slot. It is backwards compatible with Cricket 3G networks when used in markets where the 4G LTE network is not supported.

The Cricket Huawei Boltz 4G LTE modem will be available for a price of $150 (approx. Rs. 7,893) at the company’s stores. Tucson customers have an option of choosing from two kinds of monthly rate plans, each providing up to 5GB of data. These include the $50 and $60 plans that offer download speeds of up to 3Mbps and 6Mbps, respectively.
