It is true that the Sony Xperia ZR will be joining the assembly of smartphones endorsing 1080p video recording abilities, but how could we expect the Japan-based conglomerate to not extend its water-proofing practice to this segment as well? Meshing the best of both worlds, Sony has crafted a device with which users will be able to capture full HD clips underwater. This phone has now been put up for pre-order in India and marked with a provisional release date.
The Sony Xperia ZR extends to as much as 131.3mm x 67.3mm x 10.5mm in dimensions so as to accommodate a 4.55-inch capacitive touchscreen flaunting full HD resolution. Its hub consists of 2GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor housing four cores which can individually take up a speed of 1.5GHz. Furthermore, the smartphone devours a massive chunk of Android Jelly Bean.
Catering to users’ desires for storage is 8GB of onboard memory, which can be expanded by inserting a microSD card of up to 32GB capacity into a built-in expansion slot. If we were to take the e-retailers seriously, the Sony Xperia ZR which draws power from a 2,300mAh battery, should be able to deliver 11 hours of talk time or 20 days of standby to 2G users.
What permits the Sony Xperia ZR to survive a dip in approximately 1.5 meter of fresh water for a span of half an hour and resist dust is its IP55 and IP58 certification. All this leads us to believe that the handset should also pack a powerful camera. Understandably, the rear panel shows off a 13MP Exmor RS shutter which holds onto additional attributes such as auto focus, 16x digital zoom and HDR for images and videos alike.
Even though Flipkart, Snapdeal and Saholic are amongst the e-retailers that have vouched to stash the Xperia ZR upon its release, it is only Infibeam which has claimed to begin selling the smartphone by June 15 at a price of Rs 29,990.
