Sony Xperia Z, ZL to drop anchors in India very soon

The Sony Xperia Z release date may be under wraps for now, but the Japanese manufacturer has put it up on the official India website to confirm that the device is coming to the country, with ZL in tow. Both phones will be available in black or white, while prospective users also have the option to grab the former in the shade of purple.

The Xperia ZL is nothing but a compact design variant of the Xperia Z. Recently unveiled at the CES 2013, the device has been announced for the UK where it is slated to arrive in March. Its key highlight is the ability to resist spills, splashes and dust, thanks to the IPX5 and IPX7 ratings. Additionally, it has a scratch-resistant coating on the screen as well as a shatter-proof film on both panels to protect it in case of accidental drops.

Based on the Android OS, the handset operates with the assistance of Jelly Bean 4.1 out of the box and is upgradeable to version 4.2. A quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8064 + MDM9215M chipset which can process at the rate of 1.5GHz, is responsible for maintaining smooth multitasking at all times, regardless of the number of applications running in the background. There’s 2GB of RAM as well and a battery to cough up the juice for about 11 hours.

The proud owner of a 5-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen powered by the Mobile Bravia Engine 2, offers HD pictures in 1920 x 1080p resolution. A 2MP webcam stays on the front panel for video conferencing purposes, while another 13MP snapper with LED flash, Exmor R for CMOS mobile sensor and auto focus, dominates the flip side. And that’s not quite all. It has acquired the PlayStation certification and arrives with up to 16GB onboard memory. An expansion slot is also in place to increase it by up to 32GB through a microSD card.

The Sony Xperia Z and ZL smartphone’s price and availability details have not been given a mention.
