Along with the Asha 205, the Finnish manufacturer has disclosed the price and release date of the Nokia 206, a low-end device that provides access to the internet. It also happens to be one of the first few phones to have been deployed with the Slam function that can be used with gadgets featuring Bluetooth.
The 206 comes splashed in hues of cyan, magenta and yellow and its stylish chassis supports a 2.4-inch screen as well as an alphanumeric keyboard. This internet-ready device can be used for keeping in touch with family and friends through social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Available as single and dual SIM versions, it is loaded with eBuddy Chat as well as WhatsApp, the last mentioned being available only on the latter one.
The dual SIM 206 employs the Nokia EasySwap technology and can clock in standby time of up to 28 days. Its single SIM version’s standby time is of approximately 47 days, while that of the dual SIM one is 28 days, thanks to a 1110mAh battery. Users can expect it to cough up the juice for talk time of about 20 hours and music playback time of close to 41 hours at a stretch.
Its compatibility lies with 2G networks like GPRS, EDGE and EGPRS, while the handset runs on the Series 40 platform. Integrated with 64MB of internal memory, it has been embedded with an expansion slot for a microSD card of up to 32GB capacity. And if that’s not enough, the company blessed the device with a 1.3MP camera which arrives with attributes like 2.3mm focal length, 4x digital zoom, auto and manual white balance, still image editor, full-screen viewfinder and more in tow.
In addition to Slam, the device has been loaded with Nokia Xpress Internet platform which makes use of cloud technology to reduce the data consumption while browsing the internet. It is also pre-installed with a web app that goes by the name Nokia Nearby for finding out restaurants, hotels, ATMs and more.
The Nokia 206 carries a price tag that reads $62 (approx. Rs. 3,450) and will be available for purchase in Q4 2012.
