Verizon Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere 2 up for grabs in the US

The Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere 2 which sets users back by under $130, has been added to the Verizon Wireless’ array of slide-out QWERTY Android phones. This 4G-enabled device has also made an appearance on Best Buy’s online store for a discounted price of $100.

According to the guys over at Android Authority, who were tipped off by one of their readers, the smartphone is available for free at Radio Shack. But those who wish to upgrade to this phone without shelling out a single penny will have to head to its stores as this retailer is not selling it online. Needless to say, users will have to sign on the dotted line for a two-year contract and qualifying data plans.

The device with dimensions of 4.97 x 2.58 x 0.53 inches, tips the scales at 5.43 ounces and accommodates a 4-inch screen on its front panel. This Super AMOLED multi-touch display projects clear 800 x 480p visuals even in direct sunlight and is accompanied by a 1.3MP front-facing webcam. Moreover, the Samsung phone is the proud owner of a 5-row physical QWERTY keypad that slides out from under the touch panel.

What’s more, a 5MP primary camera complete with attributes like LED flash, auto focus, digital zoom and more, rests on the back panel. It can even be used for recording 720p videos. The Global Ready smartphone is compatible with the service provider’s 4G LTE network and comes with built-in Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, S Beam, S Voice and multiple Google Mobile services.

Equipped with a 1.2GHz dual core processor, the Galaxy Stratosphere 2 treats itself to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform, garnished with TouchWiz for an intuitive user interface. There’s 8GB of internal storage and it features an expansion slot to offer additional memory of up to 32GB using a microSD card. It draws power from a 1800mAh lithium-ion battery which can cough up the juice for usage time of close to 15 hours at a stretch.

The Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere 2 is up for sale for a price of $129.99 (approx. Rs. 7,215) from Verizon Wireless and for $99.99 (approx. Rs. 5,550) from Best Buy.
