AT&T Sony Xperia ion

As a part of its new venture under the Xperia NXT series, the Sony Xperia ion for AT&T, apart from the Xperia NX and Xperia acro HD were recently announced by the company. While the ion marks its first LTE enabled device, the NX and acro HD are smartphones targeted specifically at fans in Japan.

Sporting a 4.6-inch HD touchscreen which displays visuals in a resolution of 1280 X 720p, the Xperia ion will be made available in the U.S. exclusively through AT&T. The device seems suitable for avid photographers owing to its 12MP 1080p primary camera which is also supported by a 720p HD front facing one.

“CES marks an important milestone for both Sony Ericsson and Sony with the introduction of the first smartphones from Sony. As the market continues to evolve into a world where we consume content and entertainment across multiple screens, the Xperia portfolio will deliver a mobile experience that is an important cornerstone of Sony’s strategy to provide seamless connectivity and networked entertainment across smartphones, TV, laptops and tablets,” elaborated Bert Nordberg, CEO for Sony Ericsson.

The Fast Capture feature allows the camera on the phone to switch from standby mode to the first shot within a time span of about 1.5 seconds. Embedded with a 1.5GHz dual core processor and 16GB flash memory, the handset should allow quick web browsing, smooth multitasking, gaming and more.

The AT&T Sony Xperia ion release date and price specifications have not been disclosed by the company. Availability details about the Sony Xperia acro HD or the Xperia NX have also not been revealed yet. The ion is expected in the U.S. by the second quarter of 2012, while the other two handsets should reach Japan by spring this year.
