Sony Xperia S of the Xperia NXT series released

The first smartphone from the latest Xperia NXT series, the Sony Xperia S made its debut at the CES 2012 which also witnessed the arrival of the Droid 4 and the Nokia Lumia 900. The Android Gingerbread based phone which is upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich, boasts of connectivity to various devices including HDTVs, laptops, tablets and more.

Its front panel sports a 4.3-inch Reality display with Mobile Bravia Engine that renders visuals in 1280 x 720p resolution. The device is powered by a 1.5GHz dual core processor in addition to 1GB RAM. Measuring 5.0 x 2.5 x 0.4 inches, it weighs around 144 grams and comes drenched in shades of black and white.

The rear facing 12MP camera capable of capturing videos of 1080p resolution, features the Sony Exmor R mobile sensor, while the front facing webcam can shoot high definition 720p videos. The primary snapper can capture shots in about 1.5 seconds from being coaxed out of standby mode. The Xperia S is embedded with an expansion slot that supports memory cards of up to 32GB capacity.

The NFC-certified smartphone connects to HDTVs via DLNA or HDMI and the Bravia Sync app can be employed to control it through the TV’s remote control when connected. The phone lets users enjoy content from Sony Entertainment Network while Music and Video Unlimited provides access to a number of songs as well as Hollywood blockbusters and TV shows. And the PlayStation certification of the device should ensure an enhanced gaming experience while on the move.

The Sony Xperia S price has not been disclosed. It will be made available in the first quarter of this year. The Android 4.0 upgrade will be released in the second quarter.
