iPhone 5 release date for South Korea and 50 more countries to fall in December

The iPhone 5 release date for South Korea is set for December 7 and the device has geared up to make its way into 50 other nations this month. Apple’s latest generation smartphone is already available in as many as 47 countries across the globe.

The list of regions where this device will make its first appearance on December 14 features Brazil, Russia, Albania, Indonesia, Israel, Bahamas, Chile, China, Malaysia, South Africa, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Philippines, UAE and more. Users in countries like Niger, Senegal, Egypt, Madagascar, Morocco, Mauritius and Vietnam amongst others can purchase the iPhone 5 starting from December 21.

This ‘thinnest and lightest’ iPhone till date has been redesigned to accommodate a Retina display that offers a multi-touch real estate of 4 inches. It can render high definition visuals in 1136 x 640p resolution at a pixel density of 326ppi. An oleophobic coating for resistance from fingerprints has been reinforced on it. The device that weighs around 112 grams, is encased in a form factor that measures not more than 7.6mm in thickness.

Its ability to offer instant web access and fast performance can be attributed to the A6 chip. A built-in lithium-ion battery is responsible for keeping it charged for talk time or web browsing time of up to 8 hours in the 3G mode. Similar to Apple’s previous generation smartphone, the device tags along Siri that has been enhanced with more features and support for additional languages.

The iOS 6 platform brings over 200 new attributes like Shared Photo Streams, Facebook integration, Maps app, Passbook and many more. A 1.2MP FaceTime HD webcam has been fitted on the front panel for video conferencing, while the flip side houses an 8MP iSight snapper that comes with auto focus, LED flash, face detection, video stabilization, touch to focus and video recording capability. It is splashed in shades of black and slate or white and silver.

The 16GB iPhone 5 is available in the US for an on-contract price of $199 (approx. Rs. 10,885) while the 32GB and 64GB variants cost $299 (approx. Rs. 16,355) and $399 (approx. Rs. 21,825), respectively. It will be up for sale through the Apple online and retail stores as well as via authorized resellers in the aforementioned countries.
